Head of Christian Civic League known for fighting gay rights and gay marriage in Maine resigns

Mike Heath, the director of the Christian Civic League of Maine, is stepping down. For the past 15 years he leaded battles against abortion, casino gambling, and the extension of civil rights to gays and lesbians.

This is the third time Heath has offered or announced his resignation from the organization, but ended up staying on board so far.

The Christian Civic League's board accepted the 48-year-old leader's resignation Monday.

Heath says he plans to go into consulting and help his wife with her music career and "to get involved with teaching solar cooking to needy Africans".

While the Christian Civic League board has not selected a replacement, they say they are starting the search process.
